3 simple rules of highlighter
You probably hear it all the time that highlighter is an ingenious cosmetic: provides effects of youthful rested skin that makes skin look radiant and makes wrinkles less visible. As it turns out, the effect is eliminated when you lack skills in the use of highlighter. Meet 3 simple rules that will make your face radiant and full of natural glow.
1. CHOOSE GLITTER-FREE HIGHLIGHTER
The best and natural effects of satin-like glow on the skin is provided by highlighters free from glitter. On a daily basis, you want to look natural and wish to avoid a carnival-like effect. The subtle creamy highlighter looks beneficial and ensures a rested and youthful face effect. Match shade with your skin tone – it should be the same shade or slightly brighter. Keep in mind to pay attention to the tone. If you have cold tones in the skin – go for silver highlighters; if you have warm tones – go for gold and warm pigments. On the other hand, if you have dull skin, choose multihued highlighters that shimmer in various colors.
2. APPLY HIGHLIGHTER POINTWISE
The secret to correctly applied highlighter is in moderation. We know that glowing make-up straight from Instagram may look beautiful in the picture but it will not look as good in the light of the day. Remember that this cosmetic should be spread in the areas of the face where the light falls on the face. Make-up artists use it sometimes only for the cheeks. If you want to rejuvenate the skin, you can apply highlighter also to those areas of the face:
- Method to rejuvenate the gaze – apply highlighter right under the brows and in the eye corners.
- Method for radiant face – subtle diagonal lines of highlighter applied right over the cheekbones add a radiant look and perfectly rejuvenate.
- Method for expressive and full lips – apply some highlighter over the upper lips, that is on the Cupid’s bow. Then the lips’ outline will become more expressive.
The method of application depends on the texture. You will need to differently apply the highlighter in stick, cream, loose, and pressed. Remember to never get too much of the cosmetic at once but gradually intensify it so that face can look natural. Cream or stick should be thoroughly tapped in with fingertips and spread on the face to look the most natural.
3. MATCH HIGHLIGHTER’S TEXTURE WITH THE SKIN TYPE AND TYPE OF MAKE-UP
Whether you decide to choose highlighter in powder, pressed or stick, or perhaps liquid – it depends on you and your inclination. Once you are at the drugstore, you should check which one is the easiest to apply and how each of them looks on your face. Keep in mind that make-up should be something nice for you and it shouldn’t take up too much of your time so if you are not proficient at the use of highlighter, your choice should fall on classical yet delicate pressed highlighter or liquid highlighter as those cosmetics are easier to spread on the face so there will be no smudges on the cheeks.
