Alum and its use in the beauty industry
Alum is also referred to as an aftershave. It is a naturally occurring mineral. It is famous for its antibacterial properties and inhibiting bleeding. Traditionally, it has been used for rubbing the skin after shaving, to block bleeding and eliminating sweat odour. What are other properties of alum and how is it used contemporary?
Alum – properties
Alum has antibacterial properties. Thanks to this feature, it prevents the development of microorganisms and helps eliminate sweat odour which is a derivative of decaying bacteria. What’s more, due to its antibacterial properties, it accelerates wound and cut healing. This is also the reason why alum is willingly used after shaving even with very sensitive skin.
Another essential property of alum is its astringent effect. The product contributes to blood vessel contraction, reduces pores and inhibits bleeding. This way, it will also help heal acne as well as eliminate redness, itchiness after insect bites.

Alum – use
Alum comes in the form of a stick, powder or spray. Each of which is to be used differently.
Alum in a stick (crystal)
In order to use a stick alum, first, you must wet it, wait a moment and rub it against selected parts of the body, for example, armpits or shaved area. You can also rub moistened body with a dry crystal.
Powdered Alum
You can sprinkle it over your socks, inside your shoes or even feet to eliminate unwanted sweat odour and prevent the multiplication of bacteria. Powdered alum added to your bath will provide antiseptic effect and reduce sweating. Also, if used as a mouthwash, it will help reduce gum bleeding and get rid of oral aphthae.
Liquid alum (spray)
Works as an antiperspirant and that exactly how it should be used. Just spray it over your armpits and other parts of the skin where necessary.
