SPF: Most Common Mistakes. Don’t Make Them!

Summer is coming! You’ve probably already planned everything: what places you’re gonna visit, what clothes you’re gonna wear, and what summer festivals you will go to. But have you already thought about how you’re gonna shield your skin against UV?

Pale skin doesn’t look good, especially during the summer when most of the body is uncovered. That’s why getting a tan is important for most girls – they simply want to look cute. And if you’re one of those girls, make sure you know how to suntan safely before exposing the body to the sun. Keep reading to find out how to avoid common mistakes connected with using SPFs.

Sun Protection Filter: Don’t make these mistakes!

Applying SPF isn’t rocket science, right? All you have to do is wash your skin, smear a portion of a SPF cream, and you’re ready to go. Well, not always. In a moment, we’re going to give you four pieces of advice on using SPF.

1st PIECE OF ADVICE ON SPF

Don’t mix a few SPF creams on your skin. There is a huge risk of skin damage if you combine mineral and chemical sunscreens together. Why? Most SPFs that absorb UVA are formulated with zinc oxide which may give off potentially hazardous substances when combined with certain ingredients. For the same reason, combining a sunscreen with a BB cream isn’t advised either.

2nd PIECE OF ADVICE ON SPF

Wait until the SPF absorbs fully before doing makeup. A sunscreen won’t do its job if it doesn’t manage to create a protective coating on the skin. That’s why you need to make sure that you give this product enough time to do so, before putting on your favorite foundation, mascara and eyeliner.

3rd PIECE OF ADVICE ON SPF

Don’t mix SPF with a foundation. Combining those two products doesn’t make much sense. In the worst case scenario, you may trigger irritation, not to say that the sun protection filter may fail to deliver the desired results. Choosing the foundations that are enriched with SPF is a way better solution. Luckily, more and more brands launch such products so you shouldn’t have any problems with finding the right cosmetic.

4th PIECE OF ADVICE ON SPF

Reapply your sunscreen throughout the day. There is no SPF cream that would protect your skin for 12 hours straight. This may be surprising but the best sunscreens are able to create 2-hour long protection. The good news, however, is that you don’t need to take makeup off every two hours to apply the SPF. You may reach for SPF face sprays and mists that you can put on the makeup.
