Are expired cosmetics harmful?

beauty.jpgEvery cosmetic has an expiry date, which must be strictly obeyed. Why? Because expired cosmetics are threatening and can seriously harm you. How do you know that the cosmetic has gone off and what is the risk of using expired cosmetics?

How do you know that the cosmetic has gone off?

The cosmetic that was already opened, becomes bad quicker. The first symptom is the change of smell, and the next – the change of consistency. With time, cosmetics that contain fatty substances start to become rancid or microorganisms develop in them. Oxygen and other environmental factors are responsible for these processes. The speed of these adverse changes largely depends on the way of storage and use of the cosmetic and the content of stabilizers and antioxidants.

Bad cream changes the smell and colour and separates. On the top, you will see a layer of yellow oil. The durability of the cream will be extended by special spatulas added to it, which should be washed and wiped after each use.

An expired pressed powder will be applied unevenly and leave dark smudges on the face. To avoid this, separate the powder from the sponge using a cellophane disk. When applying powder to a brush, remember about washing the applicator regularly.

Spoiled perfumes can be recognized by the fact that their fragrance wears off immediately. However, the expired washing powder changes its consistency from loose to lumpy. An old nail polish dries longer and thickens, making it difficult to apply.

Out-of-date mascara becomes so thick that it cannot be spread on eyelashes. In order to prolong its durability, it is worth cleaning the wand at least every two weeks. A bad lipstick has an unpleasant smell and leaves clumps on your lips. To delay this process, avoid using it entirely, and use a brush to apply it to your lips.

What is the risk of using expired cosmetics?

Expired cosmetics, even if they are used on less sensitive parts of the skin, can harm us. Their use may result in redness, irritation, allergic reaction and inflammation.
